Rolled Butter Cookies



Ok, it's time. Get out your cookie cutters! Come on! Get the alphabet cutters, the angels, the Christmas trees, the wild animals, the Easter bunnies, the geometric shapes. What!? What!? You don't have any cookie cutters? That's INCONCEIVABLE!

Cookie cutters the best part about baking rolled cookies. There are so many different cookie cutters out there. Personally, I don't know how I got along without my alphabet, wild animal, Christmas, and Easter cookie cutters. But, don't feel bad if you don't have any. You can use a water glass, dusted with flour to cut out round cookies, then use your imagination in the decorating.

Ingredients

1 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg
2 Tbsp orange juice
1 Tbsp vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
decorating sugar

Custom Search

Cream butter and sugar.
Add egg, orange juice, and vanilla and mix well.
Add flour and baking powder.
Cover dough and refrigerate for 2 to 3 hours, or until firm.
Roll out portions of the dough to 1/4 inch thick, keeping the rest chilled.

Cut out with cookie cutters.

Sprinkle some of the cookies with colored sugar before baking, if desired.
Leave plain if you want to frost the cookies later.

Place onto ungreased cookie sheets and bake at 375 degrees F for about 8 minutes, or until lightly browned.
Cool completely before frosting.

Tip:
Use plenty of flour on your hands, the rolling pin and the counter to prevent the dough from sticking.
Also, keep the dough cold to prevent sticking.
