Old-Fashioned Hot Water Gingerbread
The name of this Old-Fashioned Hot Water Gingerbread is almost a long as the ingredient list. But, not quite.
This gingerbread tastes best when served warm with a sprinkling of confectioners' sugar. You can also serve it with some whipped cream.
Ingredients
| 2 cups | flour |
| 2 1/2 tsp | ginger |
| 1 Tbsp | cinnamon |
| 1/2 tsp | mace |
| 2 tsp | baking powder |
| 1/2 tsp | salt |
| 1/2 cup | butter |
| 1/2 cup | dark brown sugar |
| 2 | eggs |
| 3/4 cup | molasses, warmed |
| 1 cup | boiling water |
| 1 tsp | baking soda |
| confectioner | s' sugar to dust |
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Grease and flour 8"x8"x2" pan.
Cream butter with brown sugar.
Beat in eggs.
Mix flour, spices, baking powder and salt.
Mix molasses with water and add baking soda. Stir to dissolve soda.
Beat liquid (molasses mixture) into the creamed mixture.
Add dry ingredients.
Pour into 8x8x2 pan.
Bake at 350 for about 25 minutes.
Remove from oven and dust with powdered sugar.
